We provided some tips on how to sell your old home in our previous post.

If all went well, you’ve sold your home and found a new, beautiful home in Glendale, Ohio. But what now?

Moving into a new home is an exciting time but it can be overwhelming too. But it doesn’t have to be!

Let’s try to make the transition a little easier with a nice “to-do” list for your new home in Glendale, Ohio:

(1) Unpack Boxes

Your new home won’t feel like home until everything is unpacked and in the appropriate place. Boxes piled up in the corners and throughout rooms are unpleasant to look at and you will want them cleared as soon as possible.

We recommend unpacking kitchen and bathroom items first as you will need to use them right away and likely every day in your new home.

Once those boxes are unpacked, work on unpacking all clothing items and then tools in the garage and so forth.

(2) Painting

If you don’t like the old paint colors from the previous owners, you will want to pain the walls in your new home a new color. However, most of the time the previous owner will paint the walls a neutral color in order to help sell the home so you might not need to do this project immediately.

You should complete this project before attempting any other major home repairs or renovations because you don’t want paint spilling on new floors or other installations throughout the home.

(3) Deep Cleaning

Your home won’t seem cozy and comfortable if there are signs of the previous owner’s garbage or dirt still in the home.

You should clean out all left-behind items from the previous owners and either return them to them or donate them to charity.

Then you want to wipe down every surface in the home and throw out clutter and garbage.

You should also deep clean the carpet in the home unless you plan to tear it out to install new carpet or hardwood flooring. Learn more about the importance of deep cleaning carpet from Chem-Dry of Bloomington.

(4) Change the Locks

You should change the locks not long after you move into your new home. You don’t know who the previous owners handed out keys too and you probably are not comfortable with strangers having easy access into your home.

To change the exterior locks in your home is an easy project that only requires a screwdriver and an hour or two to complete.

Glendale is a very safe place to live but you will still want the peace of mind to know you are the only ones with a key to your home.

(5) Mailing Address

Be sure you have notified all companies and relatives and friends of your new mailing address so that none of your mail is lost at your old home.

You should also notify the US Postal Office of the change which will let them know to forward your mail from your old address to your new one.
